Technical Wine Taster & Sommelier
Two figures that often tend to be confused or associated, but which in reality represent two distinct and separate professions. They have in common professional wine tasting, but they differ in many other aspects, including the final aim of their work. Basically, both figures share training aimed at in-depth knowledge of wines and their physical and organoleptic characteristics, fundamental notions for carrying out both activities. Both figures share a profound knowledge of the wines they judge and describe based on technical and qualitative parameters and standards.
the technical wine taster
Focuses mainly on the technical and qualitative characteristics of the wine. His task is to provide a technical judgment and identify any defects in a particular type of wine. The taster is a fundamental figure within cellars and wineries, as he has the task of tasting the wines from the barrel, before they are put on the market to identify any problems and, if necessary, suggest the corrections to be made. He is the taster who certifies the quality of the wines we drink every day.

the sommelier
On the other hand, focuses mainly on the organoleptic and sensorial characteristics of the wine. Judge the flavor, consistency and aftertaste in order to identify the right combinations with the dishes. The sommelier is a fundamental figure within wine bars and restaurants, where he acts as support and assistance to customers in order to recommend the best wine to pair with the lunch or dinner courses.
