Made in Italy Oenological tradition
Made in Italy is something that is appreciated all over the world and important for our economy, of course everyone always refers to the finished product (example in our case the wine bottle), but we do not think that the most important part of made in Italy is that of those who allow us to have the finished product that we can find all over the world.
We all know the importance of school in all areas of work.
Italy of wine has reached the summits of world success thanks to its schools, starting with agricultural technical institutes with specialization (Diploma) in viticulture and enology (High School with final state examination).
In 15 of these schools (Conegliano, Alba, Ascoli Piceno, Avellino, Cividale del Friuli, Rome, San Michele all’Adige, Siena, Macerata, Todi, Marsala, Locorotondo, Cagliari, Voghera and Catania), they have activated a Post Diploma course for the attainment of the qualification of “Wine technician”, Having specific requirements to ensure the solidity and seriousness of the training offer, such as the availability of vineyards with their machinery, the availability of the winery for the transformation of grapes into wine and the availability of oenological chemistry laboratories.
In Italy, future wine technicians are contacted by companies even before completing their studies (the sixth year). Therefore, for this professional figure, entry into the job market is direct, also because it is a fairly limited number each year.
I conclude by saying that advertising our made in Italy (the finished product) is very important, but it is equally important that government agencies take action to spread our schools throughout the world, the symbol of the finished product.
First school of Enology. It was in Conegliano Veneto in 1876, followed by that of Avellino in 1878, while in 1881 it started, also for the interest of the minister Albese Michele Coppino, the Royal School of Viticulture and Enology of Alba.
